hands down

Most frustrating, annoying and all too often occuring senario in the world:

We all sit down to dinner together. Mama and Papa have baked chicken with bbq sauce and a spinach salad with strawberries, cucumbers, mushrooms and homemade dressing. The boys have homemade chicken nuggets, cucumbers with dip and strawberries. Max has a great time stacking all of his food into towers, eating a little here and there. Quinn eats all of his strawberries.

Quinn: "I want more strawberries."

Mama: "You can have more strawberries once you eat your cucumbers."

Quinn: "I don't want my cucumbers. I just want strawberries."

Mama: "I would love to get you some more strawberries as soon as you eat your cucumbers."

He complains some more, whines, and then is quiet for a bit. Then...

Quinn: "I don't want to eat this. I'm going to go play with my cars."

Mama: "Quinn, if you don't eat this then you will be going to bed with a hungry belly and that would be very sad. I'm not making you anything else to eat. Do you understand?"

Quinn: "Yeah, I don't want to eat. I'm done."

Mama: "Quinn, when the long hand on the clock gets to the 10 we're going to go read stories and go to bed. If you don't eat anything by then you'll be going to bed without food. Do you understand??"

Quinn: "Yeah, I don't want it."

Mama: "Quinn, Papa is going to eat your food, is that ok with you? I'm not going to make you anything else, ok??"

Quinn: "Papa can eat my food. I don't want anything. I just want to play."

Mama and Papa have a lovely time chatting and finishing dinner while Quinn and Max play with cars on the other side of the room. 10 minutes pass.

Mama: "Ok boys! The clock is on the 10, that means it's time to go read books! Let's go pick out which books you want Papa to read!!"

Quinn: "Can I have somethin'?"

Mama: "Quinn, remember when we told you that you needed to eat your food or else you would go to bed with a hungry belly? Remember when you said you didn't want anything? Remember when you said that Papa could eat your food?"

Quinn: "But I need somethin' to eat! I'm hungry!! I'M HUNGRY!!! I WANT SOME DINNER!!! I DIDN'T GET ANY DINNER!!!!"

Mama considers whether or not she could punch her fist through the wall.

The end.

Except not really because as I walked out of his room:

Quinn: "Can I have somethin'?"

Mama: "Nope. Love you. Goodnight!"

Quinn: "MAMA!!!! MAAAMMAAAAAA!!!!"

etc. etc........

Let the games begin.

It must have been a full moon or something because our children are turning crazy. We should do a child swap. Supposedly my kids (specifically Iwalani) act fine with everyone that watches them, it's just when I'm around they turn beastly!

Hayden just hit that age where dinners can be completely frustrating too! No fun, sometimes I really dread dinner time!

It's nice to know that my kid isn't the only one that does this.

PS- I love your shirts! They look way cute!

Elliot and Quinn would totally be best friends. Except you probably wouldn't want that because then Elliot would teach him to get all emotional and manipulative as well as scared of food. Oh well. I love you. You are a really really good mamma.
