other people's trash

I've been meaning to come up with a themed schedule of what to write about on what days. That way there won't be these long weeks of nothing. So my first theme that I'd like to introduce is lovingly titled:

Isn't that sweet? I think so. And it's true - I LOVE buying other people's old stuff. Yard sales make me giddy. And I really have to limit how often I go to DI. It's hard because for us, things are pretty tight right now. We're ok, we're just being careful. So I feel guilty buying things that aren't on our list of "needs." BUT, spending $5 a week on a few things here and there that simply brighten my day, I say, is worth it. I'm sure it bugs Zach, but he understands that things like that make me happy, so he tolerates it. I'm sure it's especially annoying since a good majority of the stuff I'm drawn to are admittedly ugly. Why must I love ugly things?? Seriously? I don't know. But I do.
Anyways, here are my finds in the past few weeks:

Top left corner: This is all needlework. I can't imagine how long it must have taken. Yes, it's totally nerdy. But - I'm in love with the rainbow. Price: $2.00

Top middle: Pillow cases and a crocheted throw pillow. I'm sure most people would be totally grossed out to sleep on a used pillow case. But there is seriously nothing softer than a well loved pillow case. I found myself stealing them whenever we visited my parents or Zach's parents. And that's not ok.... So whenever I see an extra pretty AND soft pillow case at a yard sale or second hand store, I grab it. AND I wash it in bleach when I get home. Does that make it better? Price: Throw pillow $2.00, Pillow cases $.50-$1.00 a piece.

Top right corner: Mini touch light globe. Quinn is way into maps and planets and all that right now, so this was a no brainer. And yes, I use it as a regular decoration right by the front door. Love it. Price: $5.00

Bottom left corner: Tall stained glass candle holder straight out of the 70's. Hilarious and colorful and useful and awesome. This one really made Zach roll his eyes. :) Price: $3.00

Bottom middle: Tall yellow glass candle stick. I don't care who you are - this one is just cool. Price: $2.00
Bottom right corner: Black Chuck Taylors. Not for me. For Zach. Found these at a yard sale. Zach just shrugged. I was worried they'd be uncomfortable and he'd hate them or something, but he actually loves them. He's worn them every day since I bought them. And he looks totally hot in them. Sweeeeet. Price: $5.00

That's all for now. Let me know what you think. Should this be a regular Friday theme? Or maybe just a thrify theme for Fridays? Because hopefully I won't be hitting yard sales and DI every week....

That's so fun! I admit, I'm spoiled. I never think to shop yard sales or anything. But I do love a flea market. They have the BEST furniture (and other junk). My grandparents' church had a fundraiser for hunger day, and they had a bunch of homemade quilts and artwork. You would've loved it.
